Ditty Bag - A small handsewn bag holding a sailor's personal gear. Made from bits of this and that, each reflected it's owner. Welcome to mine!

For me the journey started with The Sailmakers Apprentice - by Emiliano Marino . Here the ditty bag was presented as a means of learning the basic techniques needed to sew a sail.I soon became familiar with tabling, patches, sewn grommets, and the flat felled seam. My sewing palm became molded to my right hand. A callus here, a needle prick there, it was all part of the journey.

Below are samples of some of my ditty bags. Sizes vary with intended contents, ornamental stitches become more complex as skills develop.
